Can my child hold dual citizenship?

Canada permits dual citizenship without limit. Whether your child may also keep your nationality is decided by your country's law, not Canada's. Indonesia, for example, allows a child born abroad to Indonesian parents to hold limited dual citizenship until eighteen, after which the child must choose one. Check your own country's rule.

Canada's side is simple

Canada has allowed dual and multiple citizenship since 1977. Holding another nationality does not affect a Canadian citizen's status, passport or rights.

Your country's side is the one to check

Rules differ sharply. Some countries permit dual nationality indefinitely; some permit it only for minors; some do not permit it at all and treat acquiring another citizenship as renunciation. The country-by-country detail lives on the requirements pages, where it carries a checked-on date.
